MCU6

AN OVERVIEW

The MCU-6 series has been developed primarily as a line driver, this is to assist in the transmission of line level signals over extended cable runs which may cause problems for the source equipment (this is a common problem with active loudspeakers and situations where the amplification is located close to the loudspeaker). With six balanced inputs and outputs it makes the ideal interface for a 5.1 monitoring system and therefore incorporates functions to assist the correct set up of such systems.

The MCU-6 series has been intentionally designed outside the digital domain with the use of analog gain circuits and direct DC control of its facilities. This architecture provides confidence in the total inaudibility when introduced into a system.

The functionality of the unit is simple and covers the most requested specifications for such a unit.

Balance line drivers for best common mode rejection.

A compact 1U 19" case with all functions accessible on the front panel.

Individual gain trim for each channel.

Single button reference levels (79dB/85dB).

Overall gain control of all six channels on one familiar rotary control.

Optional facility to control all functions from a compact wired remote console. (Selected models only).

Low distortion circuits.

Exceptional cross-talk isolation.

High quality components including gold plated XLR connectors for inputs and outputs.

Channel trim - all six outputs have level trim accessible through the front panel using a small electrical screw driver. This gives a 14dB range for fine adjustment, using a 20 turn potentiometer.

Output level is set and controlled by two preset buttons or by the variable rotary control. The preset buttons are labelled as reference levels, the absolute value of these levels must be set by a technician or engineer, (level set at source). Setting the 85dB output level is only required as the 79dB level is an exact -6Db from this point. Operation of both presets together will provide a level at 75dB. When either or both presets are in use the variable rotary control is overridden.

The status of the reference levels is indicated by the LED in the centre of each button.
