As multi-channel systems increases in popularity, it is easy to forget that the basic stereo pair of speakers at the front of the listening area remains an essential element.
Existing libraries of recorded music, the commitment of recording companies to stereo in its current form, and the new high resolution digital two-channel formats indicate that stereo will continue to be the main source of recorded music for the foreseeable future.
For these reasons ATC still regards the main stereo speaker pair as the foundation on which a high performance multi-channel system can be built. The new innovative T16 two-way active monitor is an ideal way to establish that foundation.
This new two-way active monitor contains its own dedicated internal amplifier designed to precisely match the two high-specification drive units. This solution has major sonic, space and economic advantages over conventional systems of similar quality.
The drive units comprise a 1" fabric dome tweeter with a powerful Neodymium magnet and a 6.5" ATC soft-dome bass-mid driver with 45mm voice coil formed with flat ribbon wire. The on board amplification provides a total of 250 watts of continuous power to meet the demands of modern digital formats and film effects.
The T16 active is a new generation product using a curved and heavily damped aluminium casting with an 18mm thick ergonomic baffle. A contrasting sapphire indicator at the front shows the power on status.
In multi-channel systems the T16 becomes part of ATC's Concept 4 system, with matching sub-woofer and centre channel. To optimise both its multi-channel and stereo performance the T16 has full user-configurable dynamics via the rear panel controls.
